Even with restaurants open for inside dining next week, it’s all about the outdoors at Limin’ Beach Club, Southbank. The restaurant and bar, located at Gabriel’s Wharf on the Southbank, makes you forget that you’re on the murky Thames by bringing the heat with Caribbean vibes.
Limin’ – a term commonly used in Trinidad and loosely translates to hanging out/socialising with friends with food, drink and raucous laughter – previously had a successful popup at Spitalfields before relocating to its new home on the river last summer. Thankfully, they managed to rise above the adversities of lockdown and have even expanded their beach presence on the Wharf. The success comes as no surprise when you experience the positive attitude and energy of the native Trinidadian owner, who is often present and sociable. He even has his own rum brand, Threeways, so there seems to be no stopping him.
Décor/atmosphere
Though we’re in the “concrete jungle”, at Limin’, you can catch Caribbean beach vibes, drink Pina Colada’s out of pineapples, eat your way through a delectable selection of vegan Trinidadian classics and lime to your heart’s content. The combination of rum, soca music and sand between your toes (if you care to take your shoes off) all add to the atmosphere and experience. It’s a sure hit and a unique and welcome addition to the Southbank.
The Food
Food-wise, the restaurant serves a variety of small plates showcasing Trinidadian food and culture. The Indo-Trinidadian street food dishes are all vegan and include Masala Chips, Aloo Pies, Saheena and Doubles – a Trinidadian staple consisting of a pair of bara flatbreads with spiced chickpeas, grated cucumber, sweet tamarind and hot pepper sauce – a must when visiting! The mains include classic Caribbean dishes such as Jerk Chicken and Roti with Chicken or Jack Fruit.
Drinks
The cocktails further enhance the Caribbean experience, with Pina Colada’s in pineapples with generous rum measures, rum and coconut water served in a fresh coconut and a knock-out rum punch.
Service
The team gel well together, and the right attitude and energy start at the top and filters through to all staff who are fun but professional and do their best to accommodate you.
Price
Prices are reasonable with small plates ranging between £4 – £7 and mains £10 – £14. The drinks are where money is spent, with cocktails ranging between £10 – 13.
Overall
Highly recommended. Di Vibes Cyah Done!
Tip: Book in advance, as though the restaurant also has an inside dining area, outside is definitely the place to be.
