I’ve wanted to check out Stork Restaurant, Mayfair for a while and finally got to do so to kick off my birthday celebrations.
Stork Restaurant is a unique dining experience blending food, history and art in the heart of Mayfair.
The food is a delicious fusion of traditional African recipes with a contemporary twist, while the décor celebrates the rich heritage and creativity of Africa.
Customers can indulge in a delectable selection of dishes, each carefully prepared to showcase the rich culinary heritage of the continent.
Décor/Atmosphere
The restaurant showcases a powerful aesthetic of artwork from talented artists from West and South Africa and the African diaspora across two floors.
The Afro-futurist art and other thought-provoking pieces each tell a unique story and the atmosphere is lively and fun, with Afrobeat and Amapiano music matching the theme.
Food & Drink
Stork Restaurant, Mayfair offers innovative modern Pan-African cuisine showcasing the culinary culture of Africa and the diaspora.
I dined from the à la carte menu and started with Jumbo Prawns with Avocado, which was delicious, bursting with flavour and one of my favourite dishes. I also tried some of my dining partner’s callaloo puff, which was enjoyable, appetizing and flavourful. Other starter options included salted fish & yam cake, Ras El Hanout Lamb Beignet, ackee tartelette and more. Starters range from £10 to £20.
For the main, there are various options from Land, Sea and Earth (meat, seafood and vegetarian) ranging from Chicken And Nkatenkwan – signature Ghanaian stew, BBQ Octopus Suya and Coconut and Pumpkin Rundown.
I decided upon the Shallow Fried Red Snapper – Classic red red stew, plantain, tomato confit, black-eyed beans and finished with avocado. As a pescetarian, I cook a lot of fish, and I found this underwhelming. The fish itself was my least favourite part of the dish, but I enjoyed the other components.
They brought it back with the main though – a Puff Puff Sundae with vanilla bean accompanied with a “happy birthday”. It was, again, as the starter – delicious.
As it was my birthday month, I was given a bottle of prosecco, which was a nice touch.
Service & Price
I couldn’t fault the service. Elijah, who attended to us, was lovely, helpful, gave good recommendations and even sang happy birthday.
The price for two for a three course meal and a cocktail was £215, including service.
Overall
Stork Restaurant, Mayfair tells a story from stepping through the door. The aesthetic stood out, and the restaurant blends pan-African art, food and music well.
The starter and main were impressive. However, as a meal here is more of a treat as it’s not cheap, I would have expected them to nail all three courses. That said, generally speaking good vibes, intriguing art, and a modern take on traditional dishes make it worthy a visit with friends, family or loved ones.
