As it was my first time visiting Turkey, I wanted my stay to be authentic and my accommodation a reflection of the culture. Bodrum is an exclusive part of Turkey, and there are several big hotels and resorts a little further out of the centre, but for those that want an intimate feel, comfort, a convenient location and a real taste of Turkey, Costa Bodrum City comes highly recommended.
Set the scene
Costa Bodrum City is a boutique family-run hotel and part of the Costa Group. The hotel is surrounded by lush gardens and situated in a traditional white-washed building with 38 rooms spread over three blocks. The outdoor pool is the centrepiece, and with the cosy sun loungers and a poolside bar, it’s a great way for time to pass. The hotel offers air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi.
Location
Costa Bodrum City’s central location does not mean tranquillity is compromised, as the hotel is an oasis with a peaceful atmosphere and gardens surrounded by fruit trees. Though Costa Bodrum City’s location is in the heart of Bodrum, the quiet is only disturbed by the chirping of birds.
Costa Bodrum City is a 5-minute walk from Bodrum Bar Street, the marina and beach, as well as numerous cafes and restaurants, and is 500 metres from the bus terminal. Bodrum Castle and the Museum of Underwater Archeology are 1 km from the hotel.
The hotel offers 24-hour front desk service and free on-site private parking.
What can we expect from the bedrooms?
Rooms at Costa Bodrum City come equipped with satellite TV, private bathroom, mosquito nets and a furnished terrace. Complimentary bottles of water are in the room upon arrival.
I had a standard double room, which was a good size, clean with a matching wooden aesthetic that ran through the property and a cute balcony with a garden view.
The hotel provides mini toiletries, but there was a bulk dispenser in the shower, which was empty, signifying that they may be implementing this sustainability change.
Facilities
The facilities include wireless internet access, indoor and outdoor seating areas, a swimming pool with loungers and parasols, a poolside bar, parking and airport shuttle (surcharge), and pets are allowed.
How about the food and drink?
Breakfast is a magnificent spread of traditional Turkish breakfast dishes – breads, cheeses, jams and dips made with love by the manager’s mother, making it all the more special. The fruit and olives are foraged from the hotel’s garden. There is no official restaurant, but food can be made to order for lunch and dinner at a surcharge.
What about the service?
Costa Bodrum City has a warm atmosphere and first-class hospitality. It has a guesthouse feel, and the whole team are lovely and extremely helpful. Cinan gave me an excellent recommendation for authentic Turkish food with an atmosphere to match, and Yeto a recommendation for the Turkish hammam experience. Even the dog “City” was cute and welcoming.
The team’s warmth and friendliness make it feel like home. It’s like a secret garden, and the white-wash Mediterranean buildings give a sense of calmness.
What type of person stays here?
Travellers of all types – solo, couples and families. All are welcome, including pets.
Costa Bodrum City is ideal for couples and singles wanting a fun holiday with restaurants, beach and nightlife nearby.
Is it worth it?
There is nothing I can complain about. You usually get what you pay for, but in this case, you get more than you pay for. At €50 a night, including breakfast, this is exceptional value for money.
Star ratings are irrelevant here. Costa Bodrum City is a true Turkish delight!
